Meet Neal Rackleff

Neal has worked in affordable housing for the past 30 years. Half his career he spent on the private side and the other half on the public side. His experience across all 3 major affordable housing programs—Public Housing, Vouchers, and Tax Credits—provides him a unique perspective. In the course Neal illuminates the connections and history of these foundational affordable housing programs.

About the course

In this introductory course—designed for everyone from brand new housers to seasoned professionals—you'll learn the basic history and principles of the 3 main affordable housing programs in the U.S. Neal covers Public Housing, Section 8 Vouchers, and the Low-Income Housing Tax Credit programs.

We created Introduction to Affordable Housing Programs, because we haven't been able to find any other course that gives a basic overview of these programs and how they interrelate.

The course is developed from presentations Neal has given to housing developers, elected officials, board members, and many other housing professionals. Everyone who touches the affordable housing world, from entry level housers to government leaders, will benefit from this overview. We hope to give you a bigger picture of the affordable housing landscape and help you better relate to and work with the many teams and people who come together to create the affordable housing our country so desperately needs.

You'll learn key concepts that are foundational to understanding affordable housing.
